Per ton tandan buah segar (TBS) yang diolah di pabrik minyak sawit <a href=\"https:\/\/repository.its.ac.id\/81983\/\">akan menghasilkan limbah padat<\/a> dalam bentuk pelepah sebanyak 0,135 &#8211; 0,15 ton dan tandan kosong 0,20 &#8211; 0,23 ton.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jika mengacu perhitungan tersebut, maka tahun lalu Indonesia menghasilkan limbah pelepah dan tandan kosong masing-masing sebesar 5 &#8211; 6,4 juta ton dan 37,08 &#8211; 42,65 juta ton. Angka ini berasal dari produksi minyak sawit pada periode tersebut sebesar <a href=\"https:\/\/ipad.fas.usda.gov\/cropexplorer\/cropview\/commodityView.aspx?cropid=4243000\">44,5 juta metrik ton.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selama ini limbah padat kelapa sawit sebagian besar hanya dimanfaatkan sebagai pupuk, bahan bakar padat, atau ditimbun di lahan perkebunan. Padahal, setiap kilogram dari timbunan tandan kosong berisiko melepaskan emisi <a href=\"https:\/\/repository.its.ac.id\/81983\/\">17,4 kg setara CO2 ke atmosfer.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nah, jika seluruh limbah tandan kosong dari produksi sawit 2021, maka emisi yang telah dihasilkan dari limbah tersebut sekitar 6,45 &#8211; 7,42 juta ton setara CO2. Angka tersebut setara dengan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatewatchdata.org\/data-explorer\/historical-emissions\">dua kali lipat<\/a> emisi yang dihasilkan dari sektor penerbangan dan maritim Indonesia pada 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Limbah ini semestinya bisa dimanfaatkan dengan cara yang lebih ramah lingkungan, sekaligus memberikan manfaat ekonomi. Salah satu opsinya adalah melalui pengolahan limbah menjadi bahan baku pembuatan bioetanol. Material ini dapat dicampurkan ke dalam bensin atau bahkan menggantikannya.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Penelitian bioetanol dari limbah sawit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studi terkait pembuatan bioetanol dari tandan kosong sawit dan pelepah sawit telah dilakukan oleh lembaga riset maupun <a href=\"http:\/\/repository.ub.ac.id\/181419\/\">universitas.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Di Pusat Riset Kimia, Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional telah melakukan penelitian mulai dari skala laboratorium maupun <em>pilot project<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Berdasarkan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1876610215005482\">penelitian yang saya lakukan bersama tim,<\/a> penggunaan tandan kosong sawit hasil perlakuan awal sebanyak 250 gram per liter (g\/L) akan diperoleh bioetanol sebesar 83,4 g\/L. Sedangkan untuk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1876619615001503\">150 g\/L pelepah sawit<\/a> hasil perlakuan awal akan menghasilkan bioetanol sebanyak 59,2 g\/L.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perlakuan awal dimulai dengan proses pencacahan dan penggilingan. Jumlahnya <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1876619615001801\">sekitar<\/a> 0,116 ton per ton tandan kering dan 0,138 ton\/ton pelepah sawit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kendati demikian, kandidat bioetanol itu masih harus diproses dalam tahap hidrolisis untuk mengubah selulosa menjadi glukosa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kemudian, glukosa difermentasi untuk diubah menjadi bioetanol. Tahap setelah itu tahap pemurnian melalui proses distilasi dan dehidrasi untuk memperoleh kadar kemurnian bioetanol \u2265 99,5% sesuai standar untuk bahan bakar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Perlu &#8216;pemanis&#8217; tambahan untuk menggalakkan bioetanol<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sampai saat ini upaya pengembangan bioetanol dari limbah padat sawit masih sebatas penelitian dan tak kunjung dilirik oleh industri. Penyebabnya adalah ongkos produksi yang dianggap mahal, <a href=\"https:\/\/sphinxsai.com\/2018\/ch_vol11_no7\/3\/(269-285)V11N07CT.pdf\">sekitar<\/a> 0,58 US$ atau Rp 8.500 per liter. Harga ini masih lebih mahal dari harga eceran bensin premium (Rp 6.450) maupun pertalite (Rp 7.650) yang dijual PT Pertamina (Persero).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pemerintah sebenarnya memiliki program pencampuran 5% bioetanol dalam bensin atau disebut program E5. Program ini semestinya <a href=\"https:\/\/jdih.esdm.go.id\/index.php\/web\/result\/1354\/detail\">dimulai<\/a> pada 2020. Sayang, sampai sekarang pelaksanaannya belum menunjukkan titik terang.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pemerintah seharusnya dapat menerapkan dan merealisasikan kebijakan program E5 agar iklim produksi bioetanol terus bertumbuh di tanah air. Indonesia dapat belajar dari Brazil yang sukses mencampurkan 25% etanol ke dalam bensin dalam <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pertamina.com\/id\/news-room\/market-insight\/ethanol-dilemma\">program E25<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Berbagai lembaga penelitian maupun universitas juga patut melanjutkan penelitian bioetanol untuk menekan ongkos produksi yang layak secara komersial. Harapannya, pemanfaatan bioetanol dapat membantu menekan dampak lingkungan industri kelapa sawit yang selama ini menjadi momok negatif di dunia internasional.<!-- Below is The Conversation's page counter tag.
